5 Tips On How To Navigate AI’s Impact When New To Blogging

In the wild world of blogging, one thing's crystal clear – artificial intelligence is stirring the pot, and shaking things up. Whether you're crafting content, diving into SEO, or trying to find the words to write–literally anything–AI's become the go-to for bloggers wanting to up their game and connect with a broader crowd. So how do the newbies navigate AI while trying to find their voice in the digital scene?

Hi~ I’m a new blogger, and in this article, I’m going to dive straight into how new bloggers can navigate the AI impact in the online world.

I’m also going to talk about the tricks used by seasoned bloggers to stay on top of the AI game and give some pointers that will help new writers remain ethical in their journey.

So, grab a drink (right now I’m on my second cup of coffee) and hang with me here as I discover some cool stuff about AI and how it can be our secret weapon as we blog. Let’s learn how to adapt, optimize, and put AI in our writing arsenal in an ethical, and constructive way.

Full disclosure, I’ve used AI for this article. AI created a title, called “Unlocking the Secrets: AI’s Impact on New Bloggers.” I then made some changes to what you see now: How to Navigate AI’s Impact When New to Blogging.

I also used AI to help me come up with topics. AI chose 6 topics and I’ve considered a couple and created my own. This helped me write up my draft with each section, where I then used AI to help me tidy up some sentences and fix grammatical errors. I’ll be mentioning these tools in this article below.

Tip #1: Understand the Benefits of Incorporating AI in Blogging

Thanks to AI magic, tasks that used to eat up time and energy are on autopilot now. From brainstorming blog ideas to whipping up headlines and even cranking out entire articles. It's like having a blogging sidekick on caffeine that never gets sleepy.

AI is helping writers with SEO. Bloggers can dig into keyword data, spot trends, and fine-tune their content for search engine result pages (SERPs) with the click of an AI button. And get this – AI can suggest helping on links, both inside and outside your blog, making the whole user experience top-notch.

AI can also suggest hot topics, monitor trends, and keep tabs on what your competition is up to. So, as a newbie, you're not just blogging; you're blogging with a bit of a competitive edge.

I think AI in blogging has some pretty sweet perks for newcomers. Having a (free) personal assistant for your blog tasks is incredibly helpful. AI tools allow bloggers to automate the boring stuff and make space for the fun, strategic side of blogging. I truly hope the veteran bloggers can appreciate this!

Tip #2: Recognize & Adapt to Common Challenges Faced by Bloggers in the Age of AI

When I started blogging, my biggest concern was this: With all this time-saving helpful stuff, doesn’t this make us less crafty? Am I using my brain less now that I have someone (er, something) to help me? Will this make me less creative because I’m not actively thinking about the things I have to do or the topics I should create? Anyone else agree with me?

I’ve always been an avid believer in learning and putting in the work. One cannot just snap their fingers and a house is built. You need a hammer, some nails and a ton of elbow grease to build your home. The same goes for lasagne; you need to make the sauces, boil the pasta, and layer the damn thing yourself because the oven can only bake it.

Another challenge is the learning curve associated with adopting AI-powered tools and technologies. Many new bloggers may feel overwhelmed by the complexity of AI and may struggle to understand how to effectively integrate it into their blogging workflow. It’s important to take the time to find the right tools for the job and use the ones that make sense to you so you aren’t spending every waking hour frustrated with it and wasting your precious time.

And what about the ethical considerations surrounding AI? As AI algorithms become more sophisticated, there is a growing concern about the ethical implications of using AI in content creation. Issues like plagiarism, bias, and–as I mentioned above–the loss of human creativity, are some of the things that bloggers need to navigate when incorporating AI into their blogging practices. More on this later.

Lastly, the rapid advancements in AI technology mean that new bloggers must stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments. The blogging landscape is constantly evolving, and bloggers must continuously adapt their strategies to leverage the full potential of AI. Keeping pace with AI innovation can be a challenge, but it is paramount for bloggers to remain relevant in the ever-changing digital world.

Tip# 3: Use Strategies, Tools and Resources for Leveraging AI in Blog Creation

To effectively leverage AI in blogging and SEO, new bloggers can employ several strategies. First and foremost, it is important to understand the specific goals and objectives of your blog. This will help you identify the AI tools and technologies that align with your blogging needs.

To maximize the benefits of AI in blog creation, consider these strategies:

  • Define Your Blog Goals: Clearly understand your blog's goals to identify AI tools that align with your needs

  • AI-Powered Content Generation: Use AI tools to generate topic ideas, outlines, and drafts, but remember to personalize and edit content to reflect your unique voice

  • SEO Boost with AI: Employ AI-driven SEO tools to analyze keywords, suggest relevant terms, and optimize your content for search engines. Prioritize SEO to enhance visibility and attract organic traffic

  • Enhance User Experience: Leverage AI algorithms to analyze user behaviour, identify patterns and offer personalized content recommendations. Implement AI-powered personalization to increase user engagement, satisfaction and loyalty

  • Enhance Your Writing: Suck at sentences? Yeah, me too sometimes. Use AI to help you organize your thoughts and effectively get your point across without those grammatical errors.

If you haven’t guessed, there are quite a few different AI tools out there. Here are some popular AI-powered tools worth exploring:

  1. GPT-3.5 (Free, with the ability to purchase to upgrade): OpenAI's language model that can generate human-like text based on prompts. It can be used for content creation, copywriting, planning and organizing written content.

  2. SEOSpace: A Squarespace plugin that provides any Squarespace user with actionable insights to improve their rankings and get more organic traffic to their website. I’m not affiliated (Yet, mwah ah ah) but most of my mentors in the web design space have used Henry’s incredible plugin. I've recently set it up, so with time, I’ll start to see data come through.

  3. BuzzSumo: A tool that uses AI to analyze content performance and identify trending topics. It helps bloggers discover popular content in their niche and create highly shareable posts

  4. Grammarly: An AI-powered writing assistant that detects grammar and spelling errors, suggests improvements and provides style suggestions. It can be used to enhance the clarity and professionalism of blog posts. I’m currently using this assistant in all my writing, whether it’s blogging or emails, or even when messaging another person. This tool has significantly improved my writing skills and is available for free or for purchase for premium.

  5. NP Digital: Ubersuggest, Answer The Public, or AI Writer 2.0 helps bloggers with a multitude of tasks. From searching and auditing keywords on your site, searching for relevant content or even assisting in generating topic and content ideas, these platforms are a must-have in your resource arsenal to help guide you through your blogging tasks.

  6. SEMrush: SEMrush is an online marketing and SEO tool that provides a variety of features to help businesses and digital marketers optimize their online presence. More marketing features than Ubersuggest and more expensive, but again, something some of my mentors (experienced bloggers) have been using for years.

Tip #4: Adopt Ethical Considerations When Using AI in Blogging

Disclosure: I used Chat GPT to help me create a list of ethical considerations for this topic. I have chosen certain points that are relevant to this article.

Ethical considerations should be top of mind as they become more integrated into our blogging industry. When writing, keep these in mind:

  • Privacy Concerns:

    • Data Collection: Be transparent about the data you collect from users. Obtain clear consent before collecting and utilizing personal information.

    • Strive to anonymize and aggregate data to protect user identities.

  • Informed Consent:

    • Inform users about the use of AI on your blog and its implications. Users should be aware of how their data is being used to personalize content or improve user experience. Note: On my website, I’ve excluded the use of artificial intelligence crawlers. If you’re using Squarespace, you can do this too by tapping the forward slash button (/) and typing crawlers. Deselect the option Artificial Intelligence Crawlers

  • Bias and Fairness:

    • Be aware of biases in the AI algorithms. Biased training data can result in discriminatory outcomes. Regularly audit and adjust algorithms to ensure fair and unbiased results.

  • Transparency:

    • Provide transparency into how AI systems work. Users should have a basic understanding of the technology behind content recommendations, chatbots, or any other AI applications on your blog.

  • User Control:

    • Offer users control over their AI-driven experiences. Provide options to opt in or opt out of personalized recommendations and clearly explain the implications of these choices.

  • Security:

    • Implement robust security measures to protect user data. AI systems dealing with user information should comply with industry standards for data security.

  • Accountability:

    • Clearly define responsibilities for the ethical use of AI within your organization. Establish accountability for any unintended consequences or misuse of AI systems.

  • Accessibility:

    • If your site is accessible to those with disabilities, ensure that AI-driven features are accessible to all users. Consider diverse user needs when implementing AI technologies.

  • Continuous Monitoring:

    • Regularly monitor and evaluate the performance of your AI systems. This includes assessing the impact on user experience, identifying biases, and addressing any ethical concerns that may arise.

  • Feedback Mechanism:

    • Implement a feedback mechanism for users to report issues or concerns related to AI. Act on this feedback to improve the system and address any unintended consequences.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Stay informed about and comply with relevant data protection and privacy regulations in your region. Be aware of legal requirements regarding user consent, data storage, and data processing.

  • Mitigating Unintended Consequences:

    • Anticipate potential negative consequences of AI use, and have plans in place to mitigate them. This could include unintended biases, security vulnerabilities, or misuse of user data.

Plagiarism & bias have been a huge topic of discussion amongst the community of web designers I follow because AI content-generation tools are merely gathering information online that has been put together by humans and can lead to biased results or resemble existing articles.

Something fun: I asked Chat GPT, “How does a blogger attribute content that was generated by AI when they don't even know who created it?”

Here are my results, copied and pasted below:

Attributing content generated by AI when the original creator is unknown or the content was autonomously generated presents a unique challenge. Here are some considerations for bloggers dealing with AI-generated content attribution:

  • Acknowledge AI Involvement:

    • Clearly communicate to your audience that the content was generated by AI. Transparency is key, and it helps manage expectations about the nature of the content.

  • Mention AI Tools Used:

    • If you used specific AI tools or frameworks to generate content, consider mentioning them. This provides additional context about the technology involved.

  • Focus on Blog Authorship:

    • Emphasize the authorship of the blog post or article as the blogger rather than an individual. If the content was generated by an AI language model, make it clear that the AI is a tool used by the blogger.

  • Create a Standard Disclaimer:

    • Develop a standard disclaimer that you can include with AI-generated content. This disclaimer should explain the AI's role in content creation and highlight the absence of a specific human author.

  • Educate Your Audience:

    • Educate your audience about AI and its role in content creation. Discuss the limitations and capabilities of AI to foster understanding and acceptance.

  • Custom Attribution Statements:

    • Craft custom attribution statements for AI-generated content, making it clear that authorship lies with the AI system and that the blogger facilitated its creation.

  • Adopt Ethical Guidelines:

    • Establish ethical guidelines for your blog regarding AI-generated content. Clearly define how such content will be presented and attributed to maintain transparency.

  • Seek Legal Advice:

    • Consult legal professionals to understand any legal implications related to content attribution in your jurisdiction. Laws regarding AI-generated content may vary.

  • Engage with the AI Community:

    • Stay informed about industry best practices for attributing AI-generated content. Engage with the AI community to learn about evolving standards and recommendations.

  • Continuous Communication:

    • Keep your audience informed about the evolving nature of AI and its impact on content creation. Regularly update your content creation practices and attribution methods based on industry developments.

Remember that transparency and honesty are essential when dealing with AI-generated content. Providing your audience with clear information about the AI's role and the lack of a specific human author helps build trust and understanding.

Let me just refer back to my question on creativity and us simply using our brains to form content: One thing AI cannot do is replace our creativity and perspective. So make sure you’re still being you in your writing, and continue to provide that human element when using AI and apply it to your writing. “Be creative, be, be, creative!”

Incorporate these ethical considerations into your use of AI in blogging so you can contribute to a positive and responsible online environment while respecting user rights and privacy.

Tip# 5: Learn to Embrace the help: Success stories of bloggers who have used AI in a productive way

Numerous bloggers have successfully embraced AI and leveraged its power to get remarkable results. One such success story is that of a food blogger who used AI-powered content generation tools to automate the creation of recipe posts. By using AI to generate recipe ideas, write instructions, and even suggest ingredient substitutions, the blogger was able to publish more frequent and high-quality content, leading to increased traffic and engagement.

Another success story is that of a travel blogger who incorporated AI-driven SEO tools into their blogging workflow. By optimizing their content for relevant keywords and analyzing search trends, the blogger was able to rank higher in search engine results, attracting more organic traffic and eventually sponsorships from travel brands.

A fashion blogger used AI tools to analyze social media trends and optimize their posting schedule. By identifying the best times to post, and using prompts suggested by AI, the blogger saw increased followership and engagement on social platforms. The improved social media presence not only attracted more followers but also opened up opportunities for collaborations with fashion brands

These success stories highlight the potential that AI holds for new bloggers. By embracing and using the incredible capabilities of AI, bloggers can overcome challenges, increase efficiency, and achieve their blogging goals.

Conclusion

As I started my blogging journey, OpenAI and other platforms were beginning to trend in the news; I couldn’t help but feel diminished right from the start. But I needed to learn to adapt fast because AI isn’t going anywhere and I wanted to blog. Humans have been evolving with better machine learning since long, long ago, so we should treat this no differently.

I believe using AI as a tool is very beneficial. It helps me be more efficient and effective and contributes to continuous improvement in my English writing skills and the overall quality of my content. (You should have seen how this paragraph was written before. I asked AI to simplify the point I was trying to get across. It helped me think a little clearer about what I was trying to say.)

Are you an experienced blogger/writer reading this article? Are you feeling excited or frustrated over the shift of AI in blogging? I invite you to comment below your thoughts on AI and how you believe it’s helping or affecting your ability to write.

I think it’s good to listen to those who’ve been around for a while in the industry and make sure to adapt to the positive side of things. As one of my mentors said in a webinar just recently, “Don’t panic, be adaptable, look for the right sources of information and buckle up.” AI in blogging is revolutionizing our content creation, shaping the future of online engagement and undoubtedly is here to stay.
